How can I get a firm and round butt?

I come from an Italian family and the women in my family are overweight and have large lower bodies (hips, thighs, butts). I am not overweight for my size and age, but I have a kind of large backside. I like the size of my butt, but I want it to be shaped and toned (theres some cellulite on it)... I'm just worried that if I work out the wrong way I will lose my butt completely and have a flat, shapeless bottom! What kind of exercise can help me get a nice round shape, and firm butt?

um.... well pilates like the other person said is a good idea one of the pilates dvds I recommend is 10 minute solution pilates the instructor is lara hudson I think and it has 5 different workouts that are each 10 minutes long the ones they have are
1) pilates for abs 2) pilates for buns and thighs 3) pilates for flexibility 4) sculpting pilates and 5) pilates burn you can also creat your own workout like combining 2 or 3 workouts of the choices all into 1 I think the abs and buns and thighs workouts are the best but you can choose whatever also if you do get this dvd you might want to get a pilates mat and make sure its soft because you will be rollin on your spine and you dont want it hurt on a hardwood floor or something and you dont want to work out on carpet because during one of the moves you could slip and that could b dangerous depending how you landed

hope that helps! good luck!

do floor exercises. if you take dance, you k what I mean. or just do any exercise that you can feel the burn in that area. ALSO, greatly recommended are kicks. do 20 kicks backwards each day on each leg. you'll see the results in a wk.

Well honestly from what I know pilates are VERY effective and since you're trying to maintain a good looking butt too much of them can very likely diminish it. Although I agree with ekouso1 those exercises will most likely satisfy your need and dancing/clubbing can work if you keep movin on the dance floor hah. But hey if you're planning on clubbing or dancing holla at me I'll be glad to assist you lol just kidding

Good protein rich diet is important for overall fitness. Some sort of cardio exercise is important to burn fat in the body, especially around the buttock and hip area in Women.

For a firm and shapely butt, research has shown that Squats, Hip Extension, one-legged squats, lunges etc are most effective. These set of exercises help tone the glutes, increase muscles mass of the butt and firm up the thighs as well.
