Is a new version of iphone software on the way?

Is a new version of iphone software on the way?
I was going to buy an unlocked iphone.But read on some forums that a new version is on the way that will disable unlocked phones. Any truth in that? If apple updates the iphone software will the unlocked phones get relocked?

Yes, there is new versions of the iPhone software on the way. In fact, there's already been two new versions (updates) at least released since the iPhone's debut, which both times have either disabled or re-locked unlocked phones. Some, depending on the unlocking method they used, have ended up with an iPhone that's an expensive paperweight. And more software updates will definitely be released in the future.

Only where a provider is legitimately & legally selling iPhones that are unlocked (such as the German iPhone agent) can you be sure than updating the software isn't going to disable or re-lock your phone.
