2000 years ago was an age of rampant superstition and uncritical magical thinking. Miracle men (basically illusionists and scam artists like Benny Hinn) were a dime a dozen. The idea that gods would descend to earth, change the course of history, and rise back to heaven was a common Greek theme. Legendary heos abounded and It was common to *invent* 'biographies' for them. Further, ideas such as passivism, asceticism, and the golden rule were well known.

Here's the question then.

Given this background, why would a *real* god choose to arrive at such a gullible period of time, in congruence with a common Greek theological theme, perform tricks very similar to what the hucksters were doing, say a bunch of wisdom sayings that were already common in the culture, and then leave only hero biographies as evidence of it all?
