I understand your concern, and I do not believe it is selfish, I believe it is justified, there is no reason that a parent should do this to their children, however, it does happen, and it usually cause a rift that will not heal. I for one, would never, do this, I do not want to leave the impression that I am treating one child diff. than the others. You can read about Joseph, in the bible, his dad did this, and it made his siblings so jealous they tried to kill him, his father had a very good reason, for loving him so much, but, in my opinion, it ought not to have been done, it opened the door for envy to come in. His story did finally have a good ending, and maybe yours will too. If you can forgive, you will be much better off, other wise, it can eat at you from now on.
