Mono is called the kissing disease, mainly because its caught by saliva. That doesnt just mean kissing:

using the same toothbrush, drinking through a straw, using the same utensils after someone has just ate who has the virus.

There are roughly the only ways you can catch it.

Symptoms of mono include tiredness, fever, sore muscles, sore throat, headache, and loss of appetite.

Ask her if she feels like that at all, or has any of the symptoms.

Mono needs to run its course naturally over about 2 to 4 weeks — and some people feel tired for several weeks longer. It's important to take care of yourself if you have mono and get lots of rest.

Ally.

Yes, it's contageous. Your girlfriend should probably talk to her doctor about a preventative regime.

It is contagious.
Be careful with a diagnosis of mono though. One of my teachers in high school was diagnosed with it and for a year it didnt get better. She went to another doctor for a second opinion and found out that she didnt have mono, she has cancer. They have given her about 2 more weeks to live.
Pleeease be sure that the doctor is 100% about mono. I know that it is a rare case, what happened to my teacher, but it could happen again.
