I just got my puppy a week ago and all the researching and reading has gone through the roof. I am totally lost and don't know where to start training him. He started out with biting and I would say no and he still continued to bite and now when I hold his mouth from biting me he growls and he gets more aggressive and wants to bite me more and harder. He has gone from being a shy puppy to being a bad puppy. What can I do???

Train him real good. That's what my mother do. And remember, he's just a pup. He's not a bad puppy, if he bites you, with wailing tail, it means that he likes you. And later, a few months later, if you train him really good, he will be a good dog. Goodluck training him, latinangel252003 ^^ woof

teach him how to sit!! Only feed him out of your hands and only when he is listening! (don't let him starve, but at least TRY to make him listen) start with sit and no, then work on something else. Also teach him his name. I'm sure there are websites that help with training puppies, google it.

The biting is normal, all puppies go through a mouthy stage, holding his mouth shut seems to be making things worse so end that now. Redirect him each time he bites with a firm no or even an ouch to let him know it hurts. Then immediately give him something acceptable to chew, either a toy or a safe bone. You need to do this each and every time he bites you or something he is not supposed to. He will learn, it is just going to take a little time. Don't give up!! Puppies are not easy at times but well worth spending the time correcting now to end up with a well behaved companion. Remember consistancy is the key in everything with a puppy, from biting, chewing to potty training and barking. Good Luck!!!

you can call petco people and they can come to your house and train him. get him bones or other such things to limit him biting on other objects. yell at him in a low vioce and praise him in a hig voice. if he is growling you might want to do somehting but chewing is just a puppy thing

All if the above is the right things to do. My sugesstion is that YOU and PUPPY go to Puppy Kindergarten and both learn to work to each other. It is so worth it. All people need to go to puppy kindergarten. I always suggest that all people take the puppies they purchase from me to Puppy Kindergarten

OKAY...See I love this ...take about five peeny's put then in an empty water bottle . rub you hands and the heals of you feet(or where eva he is bitting ) with lemon juice ...FRESH lemons work the best .. now when he bites he will get a bitter taste . but also shake the bottle tellin him no at the same time ...the shaker bottle can be used in many diffrent ways when training ... but DO NOT use it as a form of praising him ...Use it only to 'Mark ' bad behavoir like nose on the counter ect...IF YOU NEED ANY MORE HELP PLEASE WRITE ME

Ditto to everyone who says to take him to puppy class...(wait until he's had ALL his puppy seriers shots, however)...

When my German Shepherd was a pup, anything I did...hold his mouth, push him away, saying NO!!, would just accelterate his game...he was a bugger!!

This left getting up, and 'leaving the game' - going into the bathroom (or any room where you can close the door)...puppies HATE being ignored. Your pup will follow you and wait outside the door...wait a minute or so, then come back out. It only takes a small amount of time for them to learn that if the play gets too rough, YOU will end the game. This little manuver also instills who's the alpha in this relationship (no different than if the pup was playing with an adult dog...they will get up and walk away...also, YOU be the one who initiates play...If he trys to play with you first...don't respond...wait a couple of minutes...then you can start the play on YOUR TERMS)...All subtle little ways of establishing who's the boss here...

Don't forget the puppy classes, tho...they are invaluable...actually they are more for you, than the dog...really!!
