next week I have to report to jail to serve my sentence...which is 18 months. I have been to jail once before but only for a misdemeanor. this is my first felony. I do not really know what to expect about what jail will be like. please give me any tips or a idea of what it will be like. I really want to go into this kind of knowing what to expect. I am told in the state jail you spend about 18-20 hours each day in your cell, which is 8x8. the rest of the time is in the yard and doing details. anyone have anything else to add?

What did you do anyway? I heard jail is real bad, like the inmates form gangs and everything.

I won't tell too much about what I did...let's just say it adds up to larceny and attempted assault. but I think your right, I'll probably have to stick with the other black inmates, because I heard its all about your race in jail...and the whites and latins wouldnt take too well to a black guy. anything else you know about this?

Well, it is pretty bad, but not as bad as you see in movies and stuff. As much as racial-division is wrong, it's probably better you stay with the other black inmates. I was watching Oprah (lol) and it was all about how if you don't stick with your own race, you could be badly injured or even killed. They even divide the grounds and you have to stay on the black section, or the latin section or whatever your race is. I wouldn't imagine you spend 20 hours in a cell daily, because everyone there would be mad. You share a cell with one other inmate, so try to get along. You'll get to make phone calls, but they'll be supervised and all of your visits will take place with a glass wall between you and your company. You'll get to go outside to work out and all that, but it still would be a miserable place to be. Well, good luck!!! When are you going?

I report on monday. like I say I been to jail before but it was for just 30 days. I dont live in a big city and there arent any gangs around here so I'm not too worried about that. but I am in the south so you have to be careful about the race stuff.
