Is prank calling a crime?

Is prank calling considered a crime in the state of Missouri?

Yes. If you call somebody with the intent to annoy or harass them, it's a misdemeanor violation. Punishable by up to 6 months in the county jail and/or $1,000 fine.

Don't prank call random people. That's cruel. What if it's a little old lonely lady who struggles to the phone because she thinks it MIGHT be one of her grandkids just to hear you say something stupid like, Is your refridgerator running?

Prank calling your friends is legal as long as you do not threat or harass them.

Well it's harrassment, yes.

But if it's a close friend. I don't think a harmless joke would hurt.

It's super annoying... don't do it.
