Wow- eye opening!
Oddly, it doesn't surprise me, as we are becoming more of a consumer society- society demands 'hip' ringtones from the latest popstars etc, so it's something that production companies and artists have to consider when recording.
It's a case of where there is a market, there is someone to cater to it.

Is music influenced too much by the gadgets it plays on?
I was reading an article about how many hit songs these days have to throw out a catchy beat right away so they can be used as ring tones for cell phones. Apparently, a song's potential as a ring tone is something that actually factors into some musicians' and studios' production time.
What do you think of this?
