In the uk the law is that it is ok just to tap your children as long as it dosunt leave a mark but certainly not with anything!!!

Sometimes my child needs one but I wait till we get home because of fear that I will have the police called on me these days. You just don't know who is watching and how misconstrued it can get. So I avoid this in public. I say yes it's illegal in some states.

In my country it is illegal to spank kids even, thanks to a recently introduced law. It goes a bit far really... basically its designed so that parents who beat or bash their kids can't claim that it was just spanking and get away with it - they have no excuse now.
