Interior decorating idea for the house?

Can anybody give me their favorite interior decorating idea for the house? The living room needs a bit of 'work' and it'd be great if a few people could give me just one solid idea to improve it. Thanks!

1) Curtains that match hand woven carpets.
2) Pot pouri in decorative container that matches the wood grain of some of the furniture in the room.
3) Throw pillows that match & compliment the colors of the window dressings, curtains, etc.
4) Hand woven carpets that bring together the rest of the colors in the room.

Those are some of the things I've seen on interior decorating shows, though I haven't a clue about this kind of thing myself Good luck.
