how is solubility, malleability, ductility, permeability, boiling point, melting point, electrical conductivity, and specific heat important in the world?

To name a few:
- Electrical engineering.
- Civil engineering (bridge building, and whatnot).
- Hell, any type of engineering except perhaps software engineering.

In less formal contexts, these sort of things come up doing calculations on anything from racecar construction to movie special effects.
