How do I make a default layout?

I want to learn how to make a default layout on my own. I own like a site on myspace. it is not a personal. it is where you make your own things for people and they can use them on there site and most of the other sites have layouts and I want to learn how to make one on my own step by step so I can make patterns on photofiltre and put the url in the code and make it look cool. please help me and dont give me generators!~

There's a website called Bare Bones Guide to HTML. That's how layouts are made.
