You assume that all atheists have no religion.
I'm an atheistic Buddhist. Just because I don't believe in any deity does not mean I have no religion.
Atheism can even be viewed as a godless religion (it is by some).
Furthermore, aren't all the rest of the categories technically atheistic? If you're going to discuss religion (or lack of) does it not still belong in the RS category?
You assume that all atheists have no religion.
yes I made a mistake here- your right, there are many types of atheism- my apologies.
Furthermore, aren't all the rest of the categories technically atheistic?
technicaly... yes, but you wouldnt post what is the difference between theism and deism or on richard dawkins' scale between 0-7, how atheistic are you? in the pets and animals form...
If you're going to discuss religion (or lack of) does it not still belong in the RS category?
No, not in the case of atheism. by talking to people, I have observed that people are afraid of post an atheism opinionated topic in the RS form because they dont want to be jeered and taunted and have religion shoved in their faces. so unless you make your topic along the lines of F*CK OFF ALL GOD BELIEVERS, how are they to post without being put down simply for their beliefs?
That's true, but it works both ways...there have been some nasty comments made by atheists towards the deists as well.
Now, if we start with a category for atheism, next thing you know, the Pagans will want their own category...and so on...
Then what about politics? Do we need a seperate category for liberals and democrats?
What if someone wants to discuss just beverages...does it mean it doesn't belong in the Food Dining category?
Do you see what I'm saying? If we start itemizing things, we're going to end up with hundreds of different categories, since we can't do it for one group but not another. It starts a precedent.
We all just need to try and get along. I know that sometimes things get out of control, but that's what us advisors are here for and we try very hard to make FA a fun and happy place for everyone.
Please don't think we're picking sides...we just really need a place to draw the line.
That's true, but it works both ways...there have been some nasty comments made by atheists towards the deists as well.
your right it dose work both ways, and so would a new form. it would seperated atheists from all others so it would minamise hatefull comments to ether side.
Now, if we start with a category for atheism, next thing you know, the Pagans will want their own category...and so on...
Then what about politics? Do we need a seperate category for liberals and democrats?
What if someone wants to discuss just beverages...does it mean it doesn't belong in the Food Dining category?
this is true, but pagans and democrats and those of use who prefer beverages are not as different from their counterparts as atheists are from religious persons. I have never herd anything even remotely close to the hate of shut your pie hole, god is real and the bible is true. stop lieing to every one. no-one cairs. in the food and beverage section. (by the way that is very similary (non an exact quote- but close) to a comment I've received after I expressed my atheistic veiws)
we're all trying to get along, but its not clicking- not in this case. and I realizes that your trying your hardest to keep the peace, but you yourself must even admit that there is a constant war in the RS form.
Easy: narrowing options in the various categories (aka, subcategories)...this will enable us to (from a user / member perspective) greatly expand our category offerings, without having too many choices to browse through on the left (which is already a long list somewhat confusing).
However, it'll take a few months...so, please be patient with us, and in the interim, if you see something that seems abusive click report abuse and we'll look into it.

I say there should be an atheist form.

I say there should be an atheist form.
I have observed here that anyone wanting to ask a question pertaining to atheism they have to post it in the religion and spirituality form. this is contradictory to the ideals of atheism. atheism is the opposite of religion and spirituality. another...
thing that I have observed is that anyone who dose post an atheist opinionated question/topic in the religion and spirituality form is bashed by every person in said form. they are persecuted for their beliefs and told that they are spreading lies and should pray for forgiveness! this is impeding peoples right to believe what they want- and honestly im tired of it. I suggest there is to be a form solely for the atheist or the person curious about atheism- somewhere free of persecution from those of us who prefer to live by a 2000 year old book.
