2 years old is a little early to try diagnosising ADD or ADHD. There are certainly differences in the abilities of 2 year olds but kids often outgrow deficiencies.
Most 2 year olds are active and inquisitive; this isn't necessarily a sign of problem.
I don't think that you should worry about this until your child starts pre-school.
Dear drkeyez93,
When a parent has ADHD the chances are greater that child will also have it. This can not only be from biological but environmental as well. Meaning that we are finding out it can be handed down through the generations and the conditions that the child lives in can also have a factor. The key is to have your ADHD under control so the environment the child lives in is stable. Diagnosing ADHD is more than a 5 minute doctors appointment; there are many tests the child must go through. They can diagnose it at 2 but we usually try to wait till they are a bit older. If you suspect ADHD with your child by all means seek out a doctor to rule out any other problems such as food allergies etc.
Sue...good luck
My biggest problem with ADD is terminology. I don't believe this is actually a disorder but rather a different personality type. For those with ADD some things that are easy for other people are very difficult; likewise, some things that are very difficult for most people come easily for most people with ADD. People with ADD are wired differently than most people.
In the computer field nearly all computer programmers and system administrators could be considered to have ADD. People with ADD tend to be good programming and managing computers so they are naturally drawn to these fields. The corrolation is so high that some doctors suggesting using an aptitute test for computer programming as a diagnosis for ADD.
The problem that students with ADD often run into is that the world is set up for the majority who don't have ADD. Everyone is expected to hit developmental milestones at the same rate and at the same time. A far more individualized approach would benefit all students.
