You need to study what the professors tell you to study. While not in college, read anything you can on IT -- go to your local bookstore and see if there is anything like IT for dummies or Programming for dummies those books are helpful.
Also helpful while studying are notecards. Buy a pack of index cards and put anything you need to memorize on them. Keep them with you and look at them every so often. You'll be fine.
