Kids are going through puberty at younger and younger ages. So yes, you might want to have a bit of the talk. You don't get have to get too much into the where babies come from part if you don't want to, but I think it would probably be a good idea to at least talk about periods and changes in bodies. The average age for getting a period is about 12, but I have heard of 9 and 10 year olds having a period too.

Dear withatee,
There are several books available at your public library that will walk you through the stages according to age. At 7 a child should already know and understand the way life begins and the proper names for body parts. We sometimes feel we can protect our children by withholding information and the opposite is true. With knowledge comes power and self-esteem. The type of question a child asks usually tells us how much we need to tell the child.
Sue..good luck

I actually wouldn't worry about it. I got my pubic hair REALLY early, around six or seven, and my parents never really said anything about it to me. Actually, I had to wait until fifth grade, in science class to hear the talk. I'm not telling you to wait that long, but you can wait another few years until you have to.
