How would I start a band and get recognized?

I've always wanted to start a band, and last time I tried to, we started out with four people and ended up with two. How would I be able to find other musicians and start to get recognized if I'm under 18?

Well, I'm in a band myself, and am SORT of recognized around my area, the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin. First off, you need to define what kind of music you want to play, and be broad about it, your going to find members who dont always stay strictly within the genre you choose to play if its too specific. Then, put up fliers around your town/city, and schedule tryouts. By the time you have your members, you might want to spend about a couple months getting to know all of them, getting comfortable playing with each other, and jsut covering songs, rather than writing your own music, TEMPORARILY. Once you have a tight unit, all the equipment needed to play gigs(pedals, amps, and people who can switch out your gear for diff songs and switch the effects mid-song and make sure everyones instrument works properly(techies).

Then start playing gigs, get known, and then eventually(if you all stay together, or at least the majority of u) get a record deal with a record company(Ex. Reprise, Capitol USA, Elektra, Dreamworks, Ferret Music, etc. KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE MAJOR RECORD COMPANIEs, VERY UNLIKELY you WILL SIGN ON WITH ONE FIRST OFF)

DON'T EVER LET THE RECORD COMPANIES TAKE CREATIVE CONTROL, EVER!!!

Have fun, and if you amazingly make it to the top, then don't let the fame get to your head, and do what you do for your fans, for those who helped along the way, and most of all, just for the love of music itself.
