The way I always do it is write in patterns.
Intro
Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2
Chorus
Verse 3
Chorus

Write like 8 lines for the verses
Here's an example-
A gentle smile will always
make me feel better
your cheerful laugh will chase the
pain away
well we'll walk in the park
until it gets dark
and then we'll dance in the moon light
I see the stars in the sky
then you catch my eye
cause you make everything alright

Then you have a chorus which repeats-
When it's a bad day in the worst way
I'll be there for you
I'm your shoulder to cry on
you can rely on me
Cause anything I do for you
you make in up to me
in a smile

Then you go to your next verse.

Just write it like a poem and make the music match. I sing randomly but if you want to remember it I suggest writing it in a poem form.

from one fellow songwriter to another ( if you get a chance cehck out my profile) My songs I have written have come from my experiences in life, about other people that have crossed my path in life, and yes even romance gets thrown in there once in a while. The key that works for me when I need to get my head clear I grab my six stringed friend and just play around and try different stuff and somehow songs start to flow or a idea start to flow. I f you havent gotten 1 yet go to walmart and get a poster of guitar chords for like 5 bucks hang it on the wall and just experiment. I hope I helped

write about a past experience; one that you feel strongly about or one that has affected you the most. you then make that into a poem. afterward, you begin to make a tune to it, which usually takes a while. you can also edit as you go.

Take a song you love. Learn it simply enough. Add your own lyrics. That, for a beginning song-writer will do wonders beyond anything you could lesson to yourself.

Trust me, from then you will know what makes up a personal song, appropriately.
