How to deal with a cocky and shy guy?

Here is the deal: I like this guy, who happens to be both very shy and very cocky. I am also a shy person, and when I am around him, one of two things happen. it's either a constant battle of outdoing each other in cockiness, or we are so awkwardly shy around each other. We kissed once, and he told me he liked me. But since then, things have not gotten to the same level. How can I make things not awkward, and how can I advance the situation without being the pursuer?

I wish I knew exactly what to tell you. The guy I had told you about was also shy and so was I and that why nothing ever got started. Anywho, I would say screw it! Throw caution to the wind. I always look back and think what an idiot I was to let so many opportunities pass me by because I was so shy. You don't have to throw yourself at him but you can do little things to let him know how you feel. Have a conversation about relationships and throw in a comment like, 'well I would definitely go for a guy like you'. That may be cheesy but I've been out of this game for 13 years.

The cardinal rule always look hot when you know he will be around that never hurts. Sometimes they come around on their own.
