Many things in math do not seem intuitive at first.

Do we agree that:

x^y
--- = x^(y-z}
x^z

Based on this we can show that x^0=1

x^y
---- = 1
x^y

x^y
--- = x^(y-y) = x^0
x^y

Have to disagree with cciinntthhiiaa.

The more you understand about math the more it makes sense. Math is for the most part a series of rules that logically follow each other. A rule like x^0=1 is quickly forgotten the day after your test. Understanding why x^0=1 will stay with you and make other mathematical concepts easier to understand.
