How can I show affection better?

I am horrible at showing my boyfriend how much I care for him.

Can anyone give me any ideas on how to:
-surprise him.
-do something extra-sweet.
-show him I love him.

He's leaving for the millitary next month, and I truly want him to believe that I love him before he leaves.
