House moving

me Asked by gwenferns about 1 month ago, 2 answers.

We live in rented premises in Mumbai
We want to shift to Kolkata. Does anybody have any idea what we can do with our household furniture,tv, utensils etc? Will it be economical to transport these items by road?

I guess it would depend on how much furniture you have and how valuable the furniture is. I'm not familiar with the places you are moving from and to, but I'm sure that the distance plays a big part.
The last time I moved, I used a large moving truck and hired 'Three Guys' (the name of a company) to do the transferring and lifting. We also put some stuff at a local storage company (I pay a small monthly charge to store it but that adds up over time). I was only moving from one side of town to another.
There's a lot of factors, like how much money you have to sink into it. I hope I've given you a few things to consider. Best of luck to you.

katwoman aka Carol gave some good advice. You should ask fo the price of moving your furniture from Mumbai to Calcutta (sounds expensive). ask moving compagnies, friends and other poeple you think can help you. This will help you take a decision. It might be cheaper to buy everything new. You can try selling your old items in the newspaper or to your friends (if you know people in the expatriate community, there is always someone looking around for furniture). I think you can keep the most expensive stuff and move it with your car or bus.
