Help with aim

Is AIM like Windows Instant Messenger? Because I no longer use my hotmail account, and now have gmail. And my Windows IM won't let me get on with my new e-mail. only the hotmail. Should I get aim, will it work the same??

Hi,

The same thing happened to me, and I just made a whole new account with Windows Instant Messenger, with my new gmail address. Then I just added all the same contacts, it worked out just fine.

AIM works the same but not the same contacts.
