Help to lose weight with medical problems

Asked by webbie_user_1994 over 3 years ago, 1 answer.

I'm 57 years old and I'm 5'2 tall and my weight 298 lbs. I have several medical conditions that prevent me from losing weight. The medical conditions are called colitis and gout and I have tendinitis around my knees. Colitis is aggravated by my...

nerves and fresh fruit and veggies. My gout flares up when I eat anything that has a gravy and when I drink orange juice. Tendinitis when I walk too much. Also I've had 4 operations - 1 - C-section (birth of only one child). 2 - Total hysterectomy. 3 - Removal of my gall bladder. 4 - Three hernia's removed (1 was the size of a grapefruit with 2 smaller ones. With that being said, how can I lose weight? All doctors tell people to eat fresh fruit and veggies, I can't. And the doctors say to exercise or walk to lose weight, I can't do that either. So what can I do?

Dear webbie_user_1994,
DO NOT TRY ANY NEW EXERCISES OR DIETS WITHOUT SEEING A DOCTOR FIRST:
How do people gain weight and keep it on? Unless the medication is keeping weight on most time we gain and maintain weight by eating too many calories for what we burn off in a day. Having bad knees would make it very difficult to walk so try aqua exercises. Your weight is taken off the joints by the buoyant water. Also try sitting in a chair and doing some light weight lifting with your upper body. You can start by just gently lifting small cans of vegetables and work your way up to something heavier. By reducing your diet by only a few calories a day you can start to see a slow weight loss. Having Colitis is very restricting and you are limited to what you can eat so sometimes eating the wrong foods can be easier than seeking good alternatives. Whatever you are eating omit 1 tablespoon of it at each meal. Be very strict in counting your calories per meal ( you can find calorie counters on the internet for almost any foods. Ask your doctor what a good calorie intake is for you and stick with it.
Sue...good luck
