Has anyone heard about the knish?

Asked by gahockeymom 3 months ago, 10 answers.

Hey, I was told about a little animal called the Knish. I went to the website and was devastated by it. Can anyone tell me more about it? Has anyone seen it?

It's a joke.

In the most traditional versions, the filling is made entirely of mashed potato, ground meat, sauerkraut, onions, kasha (buckwheat groats) or cheese. More modern varieties of fillings feature sweet potatoes, black beans, fruit, broccoli, tofu or spinach.

Not knish animal

I know what a potato knish is, I make them. I was talking about what I saw on the 'save the knish' website. It's a dot org. Has anyone else heard about that?

It's a joke website.

Like the 'kitten in a bottle' website.

But yeah I can see how it would confuse you (bitting your shoulder much?)

I went to the site http://www.savetheknish.org and it really got me, too! I had heard of the knish. I have even eaten one but I was so grossed out when I read the knish website, especially since I do not eat meat! Glad to know it is only a joke. Kinda funny, too...

Is it a joke? Cause a Jewish Deli in New York near my house is either really using Knish, or really using rats cause the heads and tails are in the garbage all the time... it looks just like the picture... If this is real its pretty messed up.

Here is the definition from Wikipedia:
A knish (IPA: [knɪʃ] I.e. the 'k' is pronounced) is an Eastern European snack food popular in Jewish communities. A knish consists of a filling covered with dough that is either baked or fried. Knishes can be purchased from street vendors in urban areas with a large Jewish population, sometimes at a hot dog stand.
In the most traditional versions, the filling is made entirely of mashed potato, ground meat, sauerkraut, onions, kasha (buckwheat groats) or cheese. More modern varieties of fillings feature sweet potatoes, black beans, fruit, broccoli, tofu or spinach.
The name Knish was taken from the small rodent often ground to make the filling of the Knish. Animal Rights activists are currently lobbying the outlawing of the Knish as the rodents are ground live, creating what some groups refer to as the grossest atrocity against rodent kind.

So, I guess there actually are some made that way. I say we all get Save the Knish t-shirts and see what happens. If it's happening somewhere, we should stop it. It's pretty sick.
