Hair coloring problem!! please help!

I am naturally a dirty blonde.. but I wanted to try something a little more drastic and go light blonde (not so platinum but a nice natural light blonde.)
Without any knowlege of hair coloring techniques, I trusted my hair stylist on what I should do....

My first attempt, I foiled my hair, but it wasnt the right color. My second attempt, I colored it. But that only made my roots orange and it was still the wrong color. So my third and most recent attempt, I had come to find that once you color your hair a certain color, you cant go any lighter than that shade. The problem is, is that the hair stylist colored it the wrong shade and it was still a little too dark. So, she foiled my hair once again to make it lighter, giving me the perfect shade. But, I do not like foiling my hair... to me, its just ugly and messy. It leaves very defined lines below my scalp and it doesnt look at all natural.

Now that I have found the perfect shade, I want to start coloring my whole head with that color. Now, this might sound like a really dumb question because I know NOTHING about hair... but would it be possible to go into the salon and ask to color my hair with that color without bleaching it? remember: because I foiled my hair and dyed it the wrong color and foiled it again, those wrong colors are still mixed in... I just dont want to look like a fool!

I think you should go to the hair stylist and they'll fix it for you

Knowing my situation... Do you think I can just color it without any other preparations first? or is it going to be a costly thing with many steps?
