...I haven't spoken German in many years, but I think that's pretty accurate.

rette mich vor der dunkelheit (rescue/save me from the darkness)

Retten mich von der Dunkelheit...isnt quite correct, as its pretty...googlish really, if you know what I mean :D

retten = save as in *I will save you (ich werde dich retten)*, correct would be rette as in *save me (rette mich)*

von = from, but in this sentence vor is used (has same meaning though)
