Why does fun mail say I have new messages when I don't?

Next to fun mail at the top it says that I've got 2 new messages

But I havent, I recieved them ages ago

Its really annoying... Why is it like this?

Maybe there is old mail that you havent opened. Go through all your messages and see if there is any unopened mail

It's an off again / on again bug. Just delete those that are still marked as "new" and then it'll remove the notice.
