Yes, certain kinds of chewing gum wears down the enamel on the teeth.
There are different kinds of gum that help keep the enamel such as gums by Trident. Other things to wear down the enamel, foods that have acid and especially eating ice can definitely ruin enamel.
Just be careful buying gum or eating certain kinds of foods.
