What we do is get Extra virgin olive oil on the q-tip, and swab out the mites. Of course dont go too deep. Repeat doing this over the next few days.
The mites will die because of the oil, and olive oil is perfectly safe for your pooch.
You can also put a couple of drops of Mineral Oil, every couple of days...it kills the adult mites, but not the eggs. There is medicine at the pet store (probably in the cat section) for ear mites...I don't know if it affects the eggs...
You have to keep putting drops in for several days, to ensure that you're gotten them all as they hatch.

PS...have you taken your dog into the vet to verify that it IS mites...
Ear infections cause shaking and scratching at the ears, also...allergies also have them shaking and scratching...make sure you are treating the right malady.

We're taking him to the vet, very soon. And when I put in the medicine, he was smiling big... showing his teeth.
Is that good? xD
You need to make sure that your dog, does for sure have ear mites, before you treat him with ear mite medication. If he hasn't been seen by a vet yet, and it's not ear mites, and you treat him for the wrong problem, you can do more damage to his ears. Ear Mite Medicine has pesticides in it, and should only be used if the vet advises you to use it. Ear Infection and Allergies can also cause him to shake his head like that. Please don't put anything in your dog's ears, until you find out what the problem is first.
It is Ear Mites, but the medicine we put in appearently isn't working.
And Im going to try what the other medicine you guys said on here.
The ear mite meds don't appear to work right away, because there are mites hatching every day...that's why you do it several days running...after 4 or 5 days there should be a noticible relief for the pupper...
He may have ear mites, as WELL as an infection...so DO take him into the vet, to ensure there aren't two problems going at one time. The oil in ear mite meds would make an infection worse...getting rid of an ear infection first should be the prioity.
If the only time my dog 'grinned BIG' at me was when I was putting drops in his ears, I'd assume he was really saying...'put one more drop in my ears, I'm going to bite ya in the arm'...LOL
