Dying over professionally dyed hair

Asked by cocobaybee83 about 1 year ago, 3 answers.

ok so I have naturally very dark hair, and have been getting it highlighted blonde for a long time at the salon. it is basically all blonde except for some faint brown highlights...oh and my ROOTS! they look just awful and im SO tired of going to the...

salon and getting them covered up. I just want to dye my hair brown and be rid of this mess and hassle. the thing is, im scared to use store bought dye, or even from sally's over top of this salon dye! my hairdresser said sometimes it can melt your hair if you use a store-bought dye that contains metallic dyes over their salon dye. I really dont want to melt my hair. I used to buy dye all the time and use it but that was before I started going to the salon.

So I guess my question is...anyone out there have salon-colored hair and colored over it with store bought dye? What were the results?

I have dyed my own hair since I wa 14 years old.
I have also been to places to get it professionaly done. I have never melted my hair at all. You just have to follow the directions and it helps to have someone there to help you so you dont miss any spots.
It depends on what color your trying to do though, some colors are tricky and shouldnt' be done at home.

well, sometimes the hairdressers will just tell you that to make you want to come back and get another job done.
when you go to the salon, chances are if they did it wrong, you can always do it again if you're not happy with it. however, with the color out of the box, you can't really do that. you would have to buy the dye over and over again. so, my advice is always leave it to a professional. (: good luck.
