If your mother doesn't want you to get highlights then it is for good reason. I'm glad my parents didn't let me die my hair when I was younger.
Would you like to know why you shouldn't die your hair?
The only way to get highlights is to bleach your hair, because you can't go lighter naturally. The ammonia that is usually used in lightening your hair will kill your roots, and therefore over time, your hair will start to fall out. That is why I look at all these girls today and just laugh. One day they will be just like my aunt, and will have to wear wigs because their hair dye made them go bald.
use Sun-In, you can find it at cvs,walmart,target, etc. Sun In is not a dye, you spray it in your hair evenly,and then go out I the sun, it will turn youe hair very light; depending on your tone.
