I don't know what drifting means, but if you have the money to spend, you'll be able to have lesser $ payments if you have a good down payment. Never buy a brand new car. It is better to buy one that is 2 years old or lease a new one but if you want to buy, straight out, you should have the car checked out by a mechanic first before you purchase it unless you know a reputable car dealer. You know, they are known to be crooked.

at work you can see stuff in the back lol =] Answered by gorgous on May 06, 2009, 08:18PM

This entirely depends on if you want a new vehicle, or one that's used and slightly to majorly built. You can find a built Nissan 240SX (with the JDM SR20DET) for around $5-$7,000. Drifting is quite the sport where there's more to it than just road course racing. There's a lot going on all at once. Before you off and purchase a 300+ WHP vehicle, try buying a car that's stock with a rear wheel drive drivetrain (for safety purposes of course). Once you get the feel of how the stock car responds to sliding around the corners on pavement, you'll be able to upgrade to a better car or put more money into the car you currently own.
The vehicle that is most popular in the drift scene is the Nissan 240SX/Silvia (same vehicle, different badging). There are quite a number of RWD vehicles out there that you can learn upon; Mazda Miata (MX-5), Mazda RX-7 and RX-8, Ford Mustangs (the Fox body tends to have good weight distribution), BMW 318i/325i/330i. Basically, anything that is rear wheel drive and stock will give you a good feel for the road and how everything works together. Remember, of course, drifting is for the track and should not be practiced on the street.
