Dorian grey, what is the story line?

Im reading the book and a little confusesd, see the story line is it, that he just cant look into the picture and he goes insane or does the picture get older and he stays the same age?, plus is he gay? I want to see the movie

Answer #1

if he looks at the picture he will die, the painting ages while he doesnt, and if he looks at it the spell will be broken and so he will age.

no I dont think hes gay O_o

mayflower158, looking at the picture most certainly will NOT kill Dorian Gray! Did you only see League of extraordinary Gentlemen!? That’s like saying Tom Sawyer is about a secret service agent, and 20,000 leagues under the sea is about the guy who invented the automobile, and Dracula ends with Mina turned into a vampire. All the characters of League of extraordinary Gentlemen are from actual novels. In the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray looking at the painting will NOT kill him! He just doesn’t like to look at it.

Try actually reading the book before answering next time.

By the way, it’s GrAy not GrEy.

If ANY of you were really reading the novel you’d know this.

Does no one read anymore?! Ever?!

Answer #3

You’re not really reading the book at all, are you? The whole idea is the painting isn’t just aging for him, it grows uglier every time he does something evil. And actually, yes, the character is supposed to be bisexual. Oscar Wilde had to make the story subtle for fear of being found out himself. Wilde was homosexual. he ended up arrested for it later (in the Victorian era it was an arrestable crime). The earlier manuscripts for the novel made it more obvious that Dorian liked men and women. I suggest you actually read it. There’s no real sexual content. It’s all subtly hinted.

Answer #6

I haven’t read the book or seen the film yet (but really want to and can’t wait) but I have seen the film league of extraordinary gentlemen and he is in that and in that the picture gets older and he doesn’t until he looks at the picture. hope this helps.
