Don't know which digital slr camera to get?

I'm really interested in photography. I do this BOCES program where I leave my school for a half a day and just learn/practice photography. Soon I'm going to need a digital SLR camera, but I'm completely clueless on which brands are the best. I'm looking...

for something under $1,000 but will last for a while.

any advice would help, thank you(:

I have a Canon 350D/Rebel XT, it's great and it's one of the lighter SLRs on the market. It was $1k a few years back, the price shouldn't have changed or may have gone down a little. I've used it for many photography works.

Go to Amazon.com and read about the features and read reviews form users

Do a search for SLRs on Gizmodos website. They love love love reviewing cameras for some reason, and their reviews are the most extensive and rigorously researched as you're likely to find.
