Dog microchipping and the devil?

editor in car 1 Asked by editor about 1 year ago, 10 answers.

I work at a animal shelter as manager on weekends, and today I had a really unique situation. I am hoping someone here with more religious inclination can explain to me this customer's views.

He asked if we had any dogs or cats available without a...

microchip-- I told him that it's our policy for every animal to have a microchip already implanted. It is a small chip about the size of a grain of rice, which is inserted between the dog's shoulderblades with a needle. It doesn't require any invasiveness (no more than a shot). I explained to him that this chip will help him become reunited with his dog, in case the dog ever became lost.

He told me he was against the chip for religious purposes, and was adamant that he get a dog without one. I told him that the shelter in the next county up does Tattooing of a dog's ID number on the animal's leg-- but that the tattoo hurts the dog much more. He said the tattoo would be fine, as it's not the mark of the devil.

Can someone explain this to me? Does the Bible really mention chipping? I don't see how that technology would be around at that time, but then again, I am not versed in religion. I'm also wondering why a more painful procedure would be religiously correct. Is the guy just crazy?

libbie: Yes, that's crazy.

Here's the original quote:
The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly and painful sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped his image.

Somehow, this has been construed to mean everything from warts and moles (ref. witchhunts) to barcodes and micro-chips. As you can see, it's so vague it can mean more or less whatever the reader wants it to. Your customer had evidently decided, for some unknown reason, that microchips are the mark of the devil but tattooed barcodes aren't. (I would've thought the other way around, if anything!)

I agree here - this poor owner is seriously confused. Animal microchipping is not a problem for Christians. And, as I've said before (and so has rnealw and also Toadaly, albeit from a different angle), we really need to be careful not to misinterpret the very complex cultural symbolism of the Book of Revelation.

I think that a lot of people have heard the preaching about the mark of the beast and believe we are already in the tribulation. We need to be careful as Christians not to assume too much. If we assume our interpretation is the only right one, it can cause confusion. Also if we make an issue of it to those who don't believe it can harm our witness.

My personal opinion is this is something that shouldn't be worried about until the treaty with Israel is signed. Whether we as believers are raptured before then or not, this is the beginning of the tribulation.

That person however concerned has a right to his opinion even if someone thinks its wrong no one k nows the time or the method. since the book of Revelations was written in a different time and culture than most of us know. the things discribed there are fascinating and exciting in my opinion. T
The U.S. is already trying microchipping on humans this will help them track them. it was 250 police in the East who knows where it will wind up. and they also tried it at a party for people wearing swimsuits at a beach bar. the chip was recorded with their bank balance which would automatically debit for their drinks. wild and a little scary.

I don't know, but good for you to be helping out animals in need! Microchipping is a great way to become reunited with your beloved pet. I really have no idea how it could be the mark of the devil. Hmmm... I wonder...

It's his opinion,, and he is intitalled to hit. this is another issue that is being blown way out of propotion on both sides, it will desensities in the long run. and wind up being another way to bash people who believe in the mark.
