How many hairs does the average dog have?

How many hairs does the average dog have. My lab puppy seems to have all of them for the breed. Cappy is healthy, but I am surprised at the amount of hair he sheds--so is my vaccum. Any thoughs on hair care for my dog? (I am serious about the first questions. Thanks.

Well, an average person has about 100,000 hairs on their scalp. This is also a much smaller area than the size of an average dog, say a terrier or small lab. So I would say...half a million? a million?. Lots.

Excessive shedding can be caused by a couple of things: one is heat. If the dog is too hot he/she will shed to get cooler. Another possibility is that your dog isn't getting all of the nutrients he/she needs. Make sure to feed them a good-quality brand of dog food, such as Purina or IAMS.

my dog ( hairy hairy hairy border collie)sheds all through November to January cause its so hot then where we are.

maybe cover your rugs and carpets and stuff till he stops. it should only last til the hot season's over.

then again, if your'e in the Northern Hemisphere, you and Cappy are probably freezing your butts off right about now.

but some humans shed hair excessively and it doesnt seem to have anything to do with the weather. It might be like that with Cappy too.

and there are all kinds of treatments for humans you can find on the net. like home-made ones maybe they'd work on your dog.

it might be just a stage of life he's going through, too. Maybe llike chickens, you know, when theyre chicks, their down falls out and they grow feathers? maybe cappy's getting ready to grow his feathers.
