Does interest in the holocaust make me a bad person?

Thunder Robot Asked by funadvice 4 months ago, 12 answers.

I want to study history at university to become a history teacher, I'm particularly interested in the Holocaust and Nazi Germany, I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression, I just find people like Oskar Schindler fascinating, Schindler saved 1'100 Jews from certain death during WW2, I have read a lot of books on Nazi Germany and The Holocaust, my parents are really angry, saying I shouldn't be interested in learning about such a bad part of history, I think they think I'm pro-nazi, which I am NOT, I just find it so tragic and think I can teach future generations about it one day, does that make me a bad person, I'm not trying to offend anybody here

It's only by remembering these terrible events that we have a chance to avoid doing them again. By all means follow your dream.

History lessons need to be learned so they're never repeated.

It is an unsavory period of history but also one that is essential to study. Like amblessed points out, those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We have to understand how tyrants rise to power in order to to fight tyrany here and now.

Of course it doesn't make you a bad person. I think it's great that you want to learn more about it. I too enjoy learning about the holocaust . I just recently finished a book about it. It's called Night by Elie Wiesel, it is a great book I highly recommend it. Also you should also watch a movie called Life is Beautiful, it will probable make you cry.

No, not at all. People should remember what happened to the prisoners during the war. There are very few people left to talk about it.

Oh nah! im not saying it was right at all, I just really want to learn more about it etc, like I've read a lot of books, I just finished Birkenau: The Camp of Death by by Marco Nahon, I'm not at all saying it was right, I'm just really interested in learnin bout it

I recently watched a video on you tube about it and it horrified me. I got taught all about it at school but not the severity. The video I watched made me cry it was so sad. People are always interested in things like crime etc beacause its the unknown for them and I believe that sometimes there is the not inderstanding how someone could do these things that fascinates us.

It's not a bad thing that you're interested in the Holocaust. We're currently learning about it at school and although it WAS a horrible thing it was interesting because it was so well planned out and organised but the Nazi's.

It doesn't make you a bad person to be interested in it and it's not really your parents place to stop you.
