1. don't use bleaching detergents/use detergents that're coloured-friendly.
2. handwash is better than washing machine if you want it last long as black as it it
3. rinse it thoroughly, and make sure no bubbles or smoothness due to the detergent's effect can be felt
4. don't expose/hang on to direct sunlight when drying 'em up
5. fabric softener should not be equal as how you do with your typical white/lightly-coloured shirts
6. as much as possible, don't iron so it won't lose the blackness

hope this helps

wash your black pants inside out and if possible by hand not the washing machine...if your doing it manually, do not sook the pants otherwise your laundry sink water will be black from the dye which means your stripping the dye off even more sad

Woolite works or get a fading protecting laundry soap and use cold water and only wash your blacks together

My mother-in-law gave me this tip for reds, and I suppose it would work with any strong color, like black. Put the pants in the washer in cold water with a cup of vinegar added. Soak them and then run your washer through the rest of the cycle as if you were washing them with detergent. The vinegar sets the color. It kept my kids red school t-shirts (we were cardinals) from fading for a long time. Hope it helps.

My mother-in-law gave me this tip a long time ago to set bright colors. I know black is not bright, but it is a strong color, prone to fading. Before you wear them, put them in a washer with cold water and 1 cup of white vinegar. Soak them and then run them through the wash cycle. You only do this one time. From then on, wash them as usual in cold water with detergent. I have used this method with red t-shirts many many times (my kids were in a school district of cardinals) and the shirts held their color through frequent washings. I don't see why it wouldn't work for black. Good luck.
