Do people in mainland china really eat dogs?

Do people in mainland China really eat dogs? I thought that this was just some horrible rumor or stereotype that wasn't true but my boyfriend told me that it is actually true.

Our repulsion to eating horse, dog, and cat is cultural.

PIgs are more intelligent than dogs yet almost everyone eats pork. When my dad fought in the Korean war he was served meat that he didn't learn until after the meal was dog. At that point he hadn't had any meat in quite a while and found it quite good.

Horse meat is quite popular in France.

Unfortunately, in some areas, yes. It is considered gross here, but it is different in those areas.

gurl they eat anything...dog, cats, snakes, rats....its part of there diet to eat those things ....like eskimos they eat raw seal and whale

Unfortunetly yea they do... my college World history teacher went on a trip to china and came back with some pretty grusome pictures of skined saint bernards hanging in butcher shop windows. sad but ur bf was right.

If your argument is, it's cultural, with regard to eating dogs, then you are a sheep. Just because it part of a culture doesn't mean you have to except it. If I preform a female circumcision on my daughter, would you just shrug and be fine with it because it's culture. Stand up for your beliefs and stop worrying about being politically correct. If you eat dog, you are telling the world that you're sick.

Vheek, you judge too harshly. By your logic I could say that you are gross because you eat pork and pigs roll around in mud all day long. I could also say that it's an outrage that men are circumsized at birth in America.

See, the difference is that female circumcision causes unnecessary hardships and intense suffering in a human being, whereas eating dogs, getting your new born baby boy circumcized and eating pork is only weird to those who aren't a part of it. Remember that dogs are animals and that you eat lamb chops even though lambs are cute animals too. Don't be a hypocrit.

Besides, consider that dog meat might be the only source of protein in the poor parts of China, especially rural areas which are always at risk of a famine or natural disaster.
