Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 33 answers.

The universe and everything in it was created somewhere between 6,000 and
10,000 years ago, in six 24hr days?
* There was a world-wide flood about 4,500 years ago
* In this flood, all human, plant and animal life was destroyed except for eight people...

and the plants and animals which they had managed to load onto a boat and keep alive for just over a year
* All humans on Earth today are descendants of those eight people
* All animals and plants on Earth today are descended from the occupants of the boat ???

World wide flood yes.

I'm not sure about all these technicalities you want to debate, but I do know that all truely saved Christians believe the Bible to be the infallible word of God and that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior - paid the price for all mans sins on the cross - man will either accept or reject this truth and yes, there are eternal consequences to this decision as the Bible clearly states - Christians aren't perfect but they do strive to do and say those things that would please Him...Hope this helps !!

The only thing that ALL Christians believe is that they've been saved by Jesus and stuff. You should get out more.

*the universe was made in 6 x 24hr days = yes
*I'm not sure about the time scale of when the earth was created. surely it must be way earlier than 6,000-10,000 yr ago. the earth had been around for hundreds of thousands of years.
*the flood info' and being desended from the people/animals/plants on the boat is right. I have no idea about when it happened or how long they were on the boat.

samurai/dundee, you're the middle-aged guy who made two accounts on a website so you could pick a fight and insult some guy over the Internet. I still say you need to get out more, you being in Australia and all.

People do or say stupid things, I point it out. And people say A LOT of stupid things on this site. So, I'm fairly busy most of the time. Ego has nothing to do with it... pay closer attention.

Can I go back to the original question?

The majority of Christians believe that we are saved by Jesus and all that stuff (thanks xiiqzaq). They also believe the Bible is God's word to us and is infallable, but it has to be said that how that is interpreted does vary.

One thing I do believe is that if I was the Devil, trying to get Christians to ignore God and what God wants us to do, I'd find silly little things to divinde us over, like the questions asked above.

That doesn't mean that I think the questioner is particularly devilish! It's fine to ask. But when we Christians get into arguing about the fine points of exactly what the Bible means by these things, we're distracting ourselves and others from the bigger picture, which is:

Most people in the world aren't saved by Jesus (and all that stuff).
Most people in the world aren't as wealthy as us.
Many people in the world suffer because of the greed or ignorance of others.
Many people in the world are really unhappy.

I think those things matter more than how we answer your original questions.

Honesty is never abusive... only just. And my behavior will remain unchanged, for it is one of the few constants upon this website. The chances of my changing are significantly less than yours... as you've already proven... Diet-Limey...

I personally don’t believe in a young earth.

I believe the 'day' of Genesis is referring to a time or era. In Strong's Concordance it is given #H3117 which can mean daylight, day, time, moment, year. My understanding is that this reference to the end of a part of the job done. And the phrase there was evening and morning implies that some time elapsed, possibly millions or billions of years before that task was accomplished. It is possible that it refers to 24 hours, to me, the evidence doesn’t lean that way.

The flood: yes I do believe in it. There is evidence a huge mountain range collapsed in the Pacific ocean that changed the face of the planet and caused Australia's climate to go from frigid to warm and sunny. There is no evidence that I am aware of; man had spread throughout the entire globe. It is possible life was on this mountain range. I see this as saying there was a very major die-off and water was its cause. Many of the dinosaur fossils are grouped like they were washed away and piled up in one area.

The plants: water covered the earth for about 6 or 8 months so that wouldn’t have annihilated all of the plant life. I could have and would have recovered.

The animals: I believe there is more to this story than is simply stated. There is evidence that civilizations existed that were far more technologically advanced than we are today. It is possible members of that civilization altered the animal forms, similar to the gene splicing going on today, and caused a problem. We are realizing that we are just a part of the ecosystem, not ruler of it. That our own existence depends a great deal on the survival of its other members.

Noah as the true Adam: Even evolution says that life had to start from a small group of 'beings'. To me the message here is that the original experiment had to be scrapped and it was 'redone'.

I don't know about all Christians, but I believe what you asked, with qualifications.

* The universe and everything in it was created somewhere between 6,000 and
10,000 years ago, in six 24hr days.
YES. There is much physical evidence for a young earth.

* There was a world-wide flood about 4,500 years ago.
YES. Ditto on the evidence. Tropical plant animal fossils on mountaintops, large ancient inland seas, large canyons with very small streams, etc. Virtually every ancient culture on every continent has a flood story, with 8 people surviving. You find the sotries in Asia, North and South America (before Columbus), the Middle East, Africa.

* In this flood, all human, plant and animal life was destroyed except for eight people and the plants and animals which they had managed to load onto a boat and keep alive for just over a year.
YES with qualifiations. Sea creatures would not have been on the ark. Some plant life survived outside the ark.

* All humans on Earth today are descendants of those eight people.
YES. They would have to be if the story is true.

* All animals and plants on Earth today are descended from the occupants of the boat.
YES for land animals.

Written history is only a few thousand years old. Prior to that, there is no written history. Human population is growing fast. Work the math backwards, and you only go back a few thousand years.

According to the Jewish Calendar, AD 2007 is the year 5678.

There is way to much evidence to put in this reply.
