How can people actually cut themselves?

Ok so the other day I was cleaning a bunch of new knives and my cousin came up and scared me. I dropped a knife and it barley skimmed over the side of my wrist. but it really stung!! how can people actually cut themselves?? I know it's to let out pain or feel something but it stil hurts a lot!!

when you cut, you dont really feel the apin. its more like an icy tingle followed by a warm feeling. cutting is a way to release pain, frustration and anger. most people dont see it like that tho. glad I could help here. emo boy, AWAY! *flys away*

People cut themseles because of emotional pain. They feel really sad, and left out, and depressed, and whatever. And they think the best way to deal with it is to cause themself physical pain, to make them forget about the emotional pain. My friend used to do it. She said after doing it for a very long time, it stops hurting. And then they do it more and keep on doing it constantly to try and cause pain, but it just dosnt work anymore.

I think some people cut them selves for attention...and thats just dumb. other people do it to numb what ever pain they're dealing with. kinda like drugs. its a temporary fix...you cut, you hurt , you focus on the pain at hand, but after that the problem is still there.

Cutting releases anger, depression and such moods as that. Most of the time some people dont feel the pain, its for of a cold sensation followed by warmth.
I dont know how to explain how that happeneds. it just doese.

ummm because the fell like no one wants to talk to them so they do that to be hurd they just fell left out and when thay get sad,mad,confused they do that sometimes people call it emo but I dont listin to waht people have to say and when they do it its not because of drugs!!! my firendsz use to do it all the time around me and after awhile I felt what they were fellin so now I understand...trust me...

It helps release the emotion that is really bothering them. We dont do it for attention we dont need the aproval of other people so quit saying that we do it for the attention its not true so just mind your own buisness.

cutting yourself actually realeases a chemical in your body that calms you down. I used to cut myself and it really doesnt hurt after you get so deep. it becomes addictive because of the chemicals realeased in the body while cutting. its a hard problem to get over so I dont recomend starting it although it does help in the short term
