year while I gain citizenship and then transfer to a university. Im going to be living with my aunt in California and im worried about the standard of living and all that. You do not have to be a resident of a state to go to college there, however you will pay an out of state tuition fee. These are much higher then standerd in state rates. I suggest applying for scholarships and seeing where that gets you. If you can't get any of you don't qualify for financial aid i'd really think about why california, when Michigan has good schools as well

No, you definitely do not have to be a resident, but it will sure makes things a lot cheaper. I can promise you that there are tons of students who go to another state every year to attend college. Get some financial help, then after a year your tuition will go down quite a bit.
