Ok. Who thinks cheerleading is a sport?

I'd have to say yes, because of this information I found online...

Strategy:
Like all recognized sports, cheerleading has big-time strategy. One very important aspect of cheering is knowing when to say certain things. For instance, they only use touchdown cheers when their team has made a touchdown. Knowing when to say the right thing during a game is kind of like debating.

Another strategy that could be even more essential to successful cheering is knowing how to read your audience. Cheerleaders always know when the crowd is getting bored and they combat this by doing some moves. For instance, a popular move would be a little shimmy, which always wakes up the males in the stand even if their team has yet to score a point.

Trash Talk:
Every athlete knows that sports involve a lot of trash talking. Cheerleaders could possibly be the worst trashers of them all because a part of their sport is calling out the other team. For example, if one of the teams comes over to the other side of the field they might use a classic cheer like: “We’re hot, you’re not so go light up in the parking lot. Yeahhh! Wheeew!”

I have to say though that trash talking in cheerleading is bringing a new aspect to the term, because members even slander their own team mates! They are definitely one up on all the other sports.

Uniforms:
Every recognized sport has uniforms and cheerleading is no exception. In fact, their uniforms could possibly be the most recognized of any sport. Uniforms are perfected to best suit the athlete’s needs. In cheerleading, the girls are put in super-duper short skirts that probably do not even fit the dress code at the school. But there is a valid reason for their size. Short skirts allow for greater movement than a long skirt.

The guys are put in baggy shorts or pants. There is a definite reason why girls are dressed in skirts and not pants. Remember when we were discussing how there are strategic moves in cheerleading. Well…some of those moves tend to reveal a little more than others and that can sometimes be pretty entertaining to all that testosterone in the crowd. The shirts also tend to be pretty small and I really can’t figure out how that would be of any use to the cheerleaders. So again, I have come to my own conclusion and deducted that again they are for the entertainment.

Popularity:
Anyone who has been to high school knows that the jocks are usually pretty popular and party pretty hard. This goes the same for cheerleaders. Like the male athletes, the cheerleaders are also strangely popular among their fellow peers. I really can only attribute this to their unique and special athletic ability. They also have the great ability to party on and on and on. This has to be because of their superior build and strategic mind.

TV Competitions:
Maybe the most compelling evidence of all is that there are televised competitions. Every sport has televised competitions and so does cheerleading. I can just imagine the whole family gathering around to watch the national championships of cheerleading. It is probably the equivalent of the Super Bowl. Now don’t try and deny it, I know you have watched one of these in awe. Well…maybe you haven’t; but there is always a first for everything.

Now if this isn’t enough evidence that cheerleading is a sport, I have to conclude that you are just a stubborn person that is unwilling to expand your horizons even though your belly keeps miraculously expanding. You see, I know the trials and tribulations of cheerleading because I was one! Yes I was, and I am damn proud of it. Not really, but only you and I know that

cheer leading is definitely a sport.
it's so dumb how people say it isnt when they would never be able to do half of the stuff any cheer leader does.
it takes a bunch of hard work, exercise, training, whatever.
I'm not a cheer leader and I've never been one, but I know for a fact that it's a sport.

I think that cheerleading is a sport because it makes you get up and move instead of fust laying on the couch wathing reruns of friends.

I could be wrong, but I think some people class chess as a sport; if chess is a sport then cheerleading is definitely a sport.

I do competative cheer is a sport. but the thing is. a dictionary defines a sport as something that uses a ball. that means
-CHESS
-TRACK
-SWIMMING
-WRESTLING
-DIVE
and a lot more things would be considered a sport.. so I prove my point

and cheerleading is SOOO much harder than track football soccer and wrestling combined.. ill admit that sideline isnt a sport. but competative is so much harder than yall think.

Cheerleading is a sport! 100% Cheerleading is a lot more of a sport than most of the sports like guys play. Ha gymnastics is also a sport!

cheerleading is a sport and its hard if not harder that other sports beause there on the ground the whole time while we fly through the air and any one who thinks that it isnt a sport I dare them to try and see if they can do what we do

Cheerleading is a form of gymnastics and gymnastics is classed as a support
and I was a cheerleader and I calass it as a port because so much hard work, physical strain and time , excersise and working out goes into so I cant see why people think it couldnt be most cheer leaders work out harder than some athletes or I no I did anyway!
so yes is the answer to that question!!

yeah it defo is and its one of the UK's fastest growing sports. and I've been cheering with the uk reigning champions for 6 yeah and have been to two europeans. id say its a sport. next step it the worlds.

if you say that then apparently you were not high enough of a level to judge how hard gymnasts work.in my opinion - cheerleaders ARE gymnasts that chose to take the easy way out. now.I will NOT say that cheerleading isn't a sport.because it is.they work hard, and are doing physical activity.it's a sport.but you have not lived the life of a competitive gymnasti(elite level)apparently.and if you haven't.I would quit sticking my input into something you know nothing about.

I am a compeettivie cheerleader and we bust our butts off 4 times a week ! we do this for 3 hourss every practice.. cheer dance tumble condition stunt and it is very tiretingg!but I loveee it!

I dunno if I'd necessarily consider it a sport, but people generally are misconseptive about cheerleading.
That sh*t isnt easy to do.
You'd have to seriously be in shape to throw people up in the air as high as they do.

wow definatley a sport...the hardest thing that ever happened to me...I've done advanced leagues in baseball, basketball,soccer,and volleyball and they don't come close to competitive cheerleading...I agree though gymnastics is extremely hard also... when you go to the really competitive teams and get to the really high, older levels its extremely difficult!!! yes it invloves tumbling, stunting and much more...it is basically the love of my life, its not just about skill but about heart, dedication,strength,freindships, and teamwork. I cant imagine my life without it..

o and I've been to worlds its great!=] its always in florida so I have a lot of fun every time I go! o yeah and usually anyone who says its not a sport..not to be mean but its either that your jealous or that you have no idea what it is...if you dont know what it is then I would like to see you last through one of my practices=p

yeah cheerleading is defintetily a sport!!! It takes A LOT of guts! to be thrown up in the air and count on your team mates to catch you (and this is coming from a competive level 8 gymnast!) believe me, I know what scary is (doing backwalkover backhandspring on a four inch beam isnt as easy as it looks!), and cheerleading is pretty freakin scary-looking

Ughz! I hate when people say cheerleading is 'not' a sport. I am a cheerleader. and trust me, we do the same or more work than football and basketball players. For the people who this cheerleading is all 'Yeah' 'Okay' '1 and 2 and 3 and 4' Dead wrong. We run 3 miles. we have to practice jumps 24/7. We have to learn our back hand springs just to move up to JV or Varsity! We have to stay in shape. Come on! Cheerleading is a sport. Trust me.

omg just because its hard doesnt make it a sport.. yeah its hard.. and theres a lot of stunts going on.. and stuff would you say dance was a sport.. they work hard too... just get over it your not in high school anymore grow up

but competition cheerleading is one of the hardest sports out there
also do you know that there are bigger and worse risk of getting hurt in cheerleading than football
many people say its harder than football
but it depends what cheer level your on

cheerleading is definately a sport! I mean, hey, you compete in competitions don't you?? and yeah, you have to learn all the cheers. and it takes hard work and a lot of time to put together a cheering routine. CHEERING IS A SPORT!
