They needed the newer more powerful gaming engines that would only work for the HD next gen consoles. If you have a Wii there usually wont be the popular games that are coming out for 360 Ps3 because the graphics would have to be dumbed down and that is enough work in itself. If you have a Ps2 the rate of new games for that is slowing down encouraging consumers to upgrade.
