Brushing my yorkshire terriers teeth every week?

I want to know how many times people are brushing their dogs's teeth in a week to avoid the nightmare bill I just got for a teeth cleaning for my little yorkshire terrier's teeth. I was charged near a thousand dollars and told I should be brushing them near daily, but I think that is just absurd. Puddles has been getting a brushing every other week right now, but I have to start doing it more. Any clues to give on how many times a week I should brush his teeth per week?

I started brushing my puppy's teeth every day just to get her used to it. Then I think every few days or once a week is enough - to be honest I haven't brushed her teeth for weeks and weeks now! I should get back into it and will aim for around 2-3 times a week. I'm going to try doing it every time I brush her coat (which she loves) so it becomes part of her grooming routine for both of us!

Teach him to hold the brush and he'll do it himself. Especially if you get him beef-flavored toothpaste, then he'll do it every hour. I risk sounding like brentblack, but this is absurd - both the procedure and the bill. It's a dog.

Yeah and I don't know why this automatically gets the yellow box. Somebody is not doing their job.

I have 2 dogs and have been told to brush their teeth regularly before but we dont and nothing has come of it, my mum used to know a woman who had had dogs all her life and I know she would never have brushed their teeth. If your worried about it try getting them some harder things to chew on between meals.

Remember in the wild they wouldnt have to, grinding on bones and such is the only teeth cleaning they would get as far as I can see.

If your dog gets bad teeth I would think it more likely that they have got soft from it not eating enough hard food rather than a lack of brushing.

It is true that in the wild they wouldn't have had their teeth brush. However, the reason we have to take more care of our dogs teeh now is that, because of advances in veterinary medicine, they live much longer. Therefore their teeth have to last much longer than they did before.

You got ripped off. 1000 dollars? Spend the money for your dog's dental bills on something more valuable.
