Can I shorten the amount of time I need braces?

I have to get braces soon for a year and a half (gr. 8-1/2 gr. 9 or so). First of all, is there a way for me to shorten the amount of time I will have to wear them? Do they hurt a lot? I also have to get surgery to make a tooth that won’t grow in accesible so if you have had this, does this hurt? And, will it make guys not want to kiss me?

ok breathe! lol dont worry bout a thing I have had braces for three years now =[ ok so to answer your questions

  1. a year and a half isnt that long =] it goes by really fast!
  2. there is a way as long as you do what they ask you will probly get elastics to wear so make sure you wear them this will help shorten the time same goes with head gear
  3. they hurt for the first 3 days but not bad they feel kinda tight and you cant have apples or any thing hard and they will hurt the first couple times they get tightened but its really not that bad…u will survive! dont worry bout it the pain is kinda like pressure on your teeth 4.I also will need surgery for 2 teeth that arent growning in but I have to wait till im done growing. it probly wont hurt because they will give you pain killers and if your still young they wont do it till your 18ish so they will give you fake teeth =[ but its better than being made fun of!
  4. lol dont worry bout the guys most liekly they will have braces to and almost 80% of the kids at my skool have them and they arnt bad they feel like nothing is on your teeth after the first month so of course they will want to kiss u!

funmail me with any more questions!

a year and a half is just a rough estimate, chances are it’ll take longer. they told me I needed them for a year and a half, and I ended up having them on for 3 1/2 years. I had surgery to get 5 teeth removed before I got my braces and they put me to sleep and all that, so no I didn’t feel any pain during or after the procedure.. so that shouldn’t be too bad. but yes, braces hurt a lot when you first get them on. going through the whole process of getting them on doesn’t hurt, but after a few hours your mouth will be reaaallly sore. but with an advil or two it’s bearable.. basically the first 3 days suck, but you’ll be completely used to them after that and they won’t hurt until you get them tightened, and when those days come the pain isn’t that bad, it’s just a tiny sore so tightening is no big deal. the only way to speed up the process is by not breaking any brackets and following ALL OF THE RULES. no ice, no gum, no hard candy, always wear your rubber bands/ head gear when they tell you to etc etc etc… theres plenty of rules, the orthodontist will explain them all to you when the time comes..

Well, im 15, and I got mine a week ago, and my front two teeth still hurt a bit but that probably because I was ‘Spooning’ with my boyfriend in his bed and I thought it’d be smart to turn around quickly and kiss him, but no, I head butted him instead, causing my jaw to hit his elbow. but anyway, yeahh, they proper suck, but what I think about is my best friend who still has to get braces. So im keeping in the process of braces, so I can help her when she gets her own. But dont do what I did, in school the pain may feel worse, and one lunch time I got so pissed off, I took 6 paracetamols (yes, stupid, I know that now) and in science, I passed out at my desk for 3 minutes, ‘’kindly’’ no-one noticed. Also, im keeping my braces on so I dont set a bad example for my little cousin, she will have to get braces in about 3 years and I dont want to make her think you get your braces took off after the first few weeks. So yeah, just keep at it, and try to forget them, but I also found out that singing stops my teeth from hurting, because your putting your concentration more into your voice than you teeth.

wow… this sounds allot like me. I had an impacted tooth. it was basically on the roof of my mouth. it would not come down so I had to have surgery for it. then I got my braces on and all that good stuff… well I had them on in 7th grade and I am nearing the end of 8th grade… every time I go to the dentist they tell me how good the teeth are moving in my mouth… tomorrow I am going to get my bottom braces on.. does anyone know when I may get them off? I don’t mind my braces but I don’t really want them on next year.

I have mine for about a year already, and I’m going back to my country to see mine other familes. The guy I like is there too so I want to get this off before I go back. However, everytime I ask my ortho how much time I have left, he just smile and said I ask that way too much =( I REALLY WANNA GET THEM OFF!!! Any suggestion to shorten the time?

I just got braces 3 days ago and I’m 15 going on 16. they said I’ll need them for 28 months which means I’ll probably have them on longer than that. my mom and I are going to make a few simplw tweeks to make it go faster- because I don’t want to have these things on my teeth for my matric year- we are going to the orthodontist every 3 weeks instead of 4, and so on. its the little thing that make it take longer, so make sure your always on time or early for your appointment, try your best to never postpone appointments, when they say come in a week from now, make the appointment for in 3 or 2 days time. its the little things man
