Any time you get anything pierced it can get infected. To take proper care of a belly button piercing get a good antibacterial sop, Dial antibacterial liquid is great. When you are in the shower, put a little of the soap on your fingers and rub just a little on to the top and bottom holes. Gently run the ring back and forth. Turn and face the water and while you rinse your belly button ring, turn it back and forth under the running water. Make sure you get all the soap out. After you dry off completely, use a SINGLE antibiotic ointment. A triple antibiotic ointment is to strong and will cause an irritation that could lead to an infection. Using a cotton swab, dab just a little of the SINGLE antibiotic ointment onto the ring and again run it back and forth to get the ointment into the piercing. Use the ointment twice a day. You can also keep a bottle of Bactine with you in case you start to itch or it does get a little irritated. Just spray a little on it and run it back and forth too.
