How do you beat binge eating?

I literally just ate 11oz of doughnut holes smothered in 1/2 jar of nutella, a protein bar, chipotle chicken alfredo, toast covered in sugar, and numerous other things. I start eating and i cant stop even when i recognize that i am binging.

Just from the list of what it is you’ve eaten, it sounds like you’re trying to combat cravings. You don’t really need to stop the eating, you just need to eat the right foods. We often eat the foods we crave, but what we don’t realize is that we crave certain foods because our bodies are lacking specific vitamins or nutrients.

This webpage has a handy chart that can tell you exactly what you should be eating when you’re craving all that sugar so you don’t go overboard with your food intake: http://funadvice.com/r/buf9dhalhem

Great web page, Colleen, thanks!

Rose, in addition to biological cravings for nutrients you’re not getting enough of, your binging is likely also driven by emotional distress. So, in addition to shifting your attention from how much you eat to what you eat, you also need to focus on other ways to handle that distress. I know that you’ve learned some techniques for that recently. Have you been using them?

Answer #10

For me the trick is to eat regular and reasonably equal sized meals. If I don’t eat breakfast because I’m not hungry, munch a granola bar at my desk for lunch at work, then get busy and just gnosh a bit around dinner time chances are I’ll eat everything in sight late and end up eating far more than I usually do in most days. I need to eat around 2,000 calories to loose weight so I try to eat around 500 calories all 3 meals plus one evening snack.

Best to speak with a professional to find better ways to cope….
